What Action Most Protects U.S. Troops: Withdrawal, Cutting off Fundings?

Who Protects U.S. Troops the Most; Those politicians who want to keep sending U.S. military personnel to Iraq until the war until it is "won:? Or those who argue to withdraw the troops now?

A few obvious thoughts from a former Naval aviator in World War II:

  • Continuing to pour U.S. troops into Iraq will kill, injure, and maim more American personnel. Compounding these physical problems are the financial and personal problems of the families of these military personnel, especially the national guard personnel who thought their duties were protecting domestic matters within the United States. In addition, these families are experiencing a high divorce rate, financial and personal problems at home, and a host of other hardships.

  • Withdrawing the troops will limit the deaths, injuries, and maiming, and reduce the hardships at home with the families.

  • Obviously, bringing the troops home is more supportive of them rather than sending more of them to their deaths.

  • Two other thoughts: it was serial lying by White House politicians that put U.S. troops into harm's way in the first place; these same lying politicians are hardly the ones to claim that removing the troops will undermine them. Another thought is that there is no possibility of a "win" in Iraq. That possibility was an impossibility even before the invasion of Iraq.

Making this scenario even uglier:

The deaths of hundreds of thousands of people resulting from lying U.S. politicians and their shills, both Americans and Iraqis, are the direct result of:

  • The serial lying by President Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Paul Wolfowitz, and others in the White House.

  • The actions by members of Congress who, if you remember, repeatedly jumped to their feet and loudly applauded virtually every sentence or half sentence uttered by President George Bush before the joint House and Senate, as they approved his decision to start the war.

  • The media people who shilled for White House politicians, who covered up for the serial lying, keeping from the people the truth that was readily available to anyone who were not too lazy or ignorant to find it.

  • The media people who repeatedly refused to challenge Bush and the other politicians on their lying.

  • The people who voted for Bush, especially those who voted for him the second time, and/or those who supported the war upon the Iraqi people. Ironically, many who would bury loved ones killed in Iraq included mothers, fathers, and wives, who supported the war and who voted for President Bush.

Thoughts on Cutting Off Funding for
Continuing War Against Iraq

Do the politicians who want to cut off funding to continue sending troops to Iraq undermine U.S. troops, or act to protect them from further killings, injuries, and maiming?

Continuing to fund the presence of troops in Iraq obviously will result in more troops being killed, maimed, injured.

Halting the funding will require withdrawing the troops from Iraq. To insure that the remaining funds are used for that purpose, thee allocation for funds can be limited to their removal from Iraq.

Ahhhh, but there is another problem that hasn't been addressed. America's Catch-22!.

  • Bringing the troops home will almost certainly result in an explosive expansion of the civil war, the wars between tribes, between sects, between criminal elements. The present government, made up of various militias, is virtually powerless to control events.

  • Other governments in the region will probably step in, expanding the Iraq quagmire throughout the region, with even greater expansion of the war and increase in the number of terrorists wanting to harm the United States.

  • Therefore, the decision will probably be made by White House and congressional politicians to continue the presence of troops, and consider their deaths, injuries and maiming simply as part of the cost of the serial lying that put the troops into that position in the first place.

In other words, the United States has been put into a deadly quagmire from which the extent of the damage is unknown at this time. At the very least, the people should recognize whose arrogance, lying, corruption, put the nation into this position and then take action to make them pay for what they have done. But the extent of the guilty is so great, that this will never be done!
