Information on FAA's Actions Resulting in Grounding of Hundreds of Flights

As stated in an earlier posting, there is more to the grounding of hundreds of flights and the disruption of travel plans for thousands of passengers. In the case of American Airlines' on April 10, 2008, over 200 MD-80 flights were cancelled, stranding and inflicting great hardship upon about 250,000 passengers. The reason? wire bundles that were technically to be tied together every one inch were only tied together every 1 1/2 inch.

A technical violation of this nature is not a significant safety hazard, and miniscule compared to the safety hazards associated with a string of airline disasters that former FAA inspector Rodney Stich reported and documented in his book, Unfriendly Skies: 20th and 21st Centuries. The FAA reacted to earlier publicized reports by FAA maintenance inspectors, and sought to show FAA management was responsive to safety hazards. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In the past, thousands of funeral processions were the ripple effects arrogance and corruption in the FAA. With the needless grounding of thousands of airline flights, inflicting hardship on hundreds of thousand of passengers, the traveling public is affected in another way by the culture in the FAA.
