U.S. politicians and political appointees were praising the defection of Libyan minister Moussa Koussa to the United Kingdom in March 2011, hoping that he would reveal the role of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie.

The U.S. blaming Libya's leader for ordering that bombing was another in a endless series of hoaxes—some with deadly consequences—played upon the uninformed American public.
